Vintage Reynolds Ton Not Enough

On another sunny Salts day Seaford were put into bat by Visiting Buxted Park 2s on a fine looking batting track, Dean Cooper in his first 2nd team game for several years showed off his batting skills with a well crafted 81. After a couple of early lives Deano got his head down and looked set for three figures before being sent back to the pavilion LBW, a disappointing end to a fine innings but this gave Seaford the perfect base to set an imposing target for the visitors. The opening stand of 134 including a number of quick singles and scampered twos that many of us hadn't seen Jonty Reynolds do for a number of years. Well done Deano for that gave the watching team mates much amusement, all together another great start. Once Dean went Jonty Reynolds then picked up his run rate with some meaty boundaries keeping Seaford up on the run rate. He was joined by youngster Oscar Weisz, once Mitch Ellingham departed, these two together put on another 100 partnership.

Pick of the visitor's bowlers was another youngster Josh Coleman an impressive spell of off spin bringing him 2-24, where were you earlier in the innings. Seaford declared after 44 overs to give themselves more time to bag the required ten wickets.

The second 100 opening partnership of the day gave Buxted a base to push on to try and hunt down the required 257. Buxted were always a little behind the clock despite a hard hitting run a ball 84 from Rob Hunter. John Smith kept it tight early on to keep the scoreboard in check, some fine ground fielding from Seaford got the two run outs from Jon Pitts and Ollie Harvey, Mitch Ellingham with another quality spell bagged two wickets to keep the game open. Skipper Karl Wootten came on for his first bowl of the season this proved to be all action spell from the start, 4s, 6,s dropped catches, wickets, unfortunately these few catches that were grassed could have been vital. A super spell from Ollie Harvey late on, full of swing and movement, was unlucky to only get one wicket. An earlier bowl for Ollie next time maybe. A few more overs at the last few batsmen may have helped Seaford force a win but not to be.

A fine game though both sides going for 30 points until near the very end. Seaford now look forward to

first local Derby for some years next week against Newhaven, we will be very keen to carry on the early season form.
