Seaford Under 11 softball turned up at Crowhurst Park on an overcast and chilly morning. Only the six players were available but all turned up keen and eager and certainly looking the part. Captain for the day Frankie Spiers won the toss and elected to bat first and it was he and Daniel who opened the innings. It took a little time to adjust to the Crowhurst bowlers but they soon found their stride both hitting a boundary each. Second pairing of Elliot and Blake did well with Elliot in particular being able to pick off some key runs. Ruby-Mae and Henry were the third pairing as Henry hit some big shots including four boundaries and Ruby-Mae also managed to secure some runs, a highlight was a leg glance for four which pleased the travelling supporters. As Seaford were two players short, Frankie and Elliot batted again and saw the innings through for it to finish on a respectable 279 taking into account the three wickets lost. A mid innings team talk explained that it was going to be hard fielding with two players less than the opposition. Daniel and Elliot opened the bowling with some tight deliveries and Daniel in particular was key in an early run out. Frankie certainly meant business as he cleaned bowled one of the opposition in his first over with a fist pump for celebration showing just how much it meant to him. Henry kept things tight as he bowled three overs with a good line and length and Ruby and Blake with their first attempts of over-arm bowling did themselves proud. The scores were close going into the last three overs but it was Crowhurst however who capitalised on the 19 wides bowled, but this should take nothing away from the effort shown in Seaford's first game. Everyone did themselves proud and it is certainly a good foundation to build on for the rest of the season.
