Sunday 9th June 2019 will go down as the day the Under 11 team won their first game of cricket and what a display it was.

Captain for the day, Frankie Spiers, lost the toss and the Seaford team were asked to field first on a sunny morning at The Salts with the primary task of entertaining the large crowd that had gathered. Opening bowler Henry did that by cleaning bowling a Mayfield batsmen with the third delivery of the day and in the second over, a direct hit run out by Elliott followed by two wickets by clean bowling the opposition put Seaford in the driving seat early on. Another tight Henry over and a caught and bowled by Elliot in his second over meant the visitors were 12 runs down after their first four overs. Frankie and Finley shared the next four overs with a much more disciplined performance and another run out helped the Seaford cause with Mayfield moving onto 206 after 8 overs. Harvey was unlucky not to get any wickets after some tight spin bowling and Adam too produced a really good spell of line and length deliveries. The last four overs saw the Mayfield batsmen tick their score over steadily and a further wicket for Elliot, easily today's pick of the bowlers, meant Mayfield closed on 242. A real positive for the Seaford side was just 12 wides were bowled today showing their hard work at practice was starting to pay off.

With a reasonably low score set as the target, it was important the Seaford side didn't take anything for granted and Harvey and Finley started in steady fashion. Between them, they only lost one wicket when Finley decided he was going to stamp all over the stumps, but two boundaries meant a solid start for the Seaford side. Ruby and Sammy were next up and were both doing really well until two run outs meant they lost runs on the last two balls of their partnership. Having said that, their partnership still increased the Seaford score by nine runs and Seaford were feeling good. Elliott and Henry were up next and between them, some impressive running, as they started to take it to the Mayfield bowlers. An unlucky Elliot was caught and bowled once, but other than that 24 runs were scored by this partnership including a lovely driven four by Henry through the covers. With the scores level on 242 a-piece and four overs left to bat, it was up to skipper Frankie and Adam to see the home side through. The Mayfield bowlers certainly didn't make it easy for them as the pair lost three wickets but they were able to stand strong, pick off some really good singles and ensure that Seaford took the well deserved victory.

Jubilant celebratory scenes started in the dressing room straight after the game as the Seaford players quite rightly enjoyed the victory. With the next game tomorrow evening (10th June), Seaford will be hoping the taste of success is a taste they will continue to experience as the seasons goes on.
