On a sweltering day at St James CC and playing on an artificial wicket Seaford U12s couldn't chase down an achievable looking total.

Bowling first Seaford had taken wickets at regular intervals, opening bowlers Laurie Weisz and Aaron Bashir chipping away at the top order, with Weisz making the initial break through. Beau Mills-Bennison came on to remove the dangerous looking number 3 with a stunning boundary catch from Laurie. Rupert Anderson then came on with his exquisite left arm spin putting the batsmen in all sorts of trouble, a return catch for Rupert removing a powerful looking number 4, Sam Rowe then bagged a wicket with a smart catch from Eleanor Hornsby. The flight and guile of Harvey Wootten was then introduced, an excellent first spell had the middle order going aerial but he didn't get the luck in his first spell the ball dropping just short of the fielders. With Harvey being rested Eleanor came on and was soon in the wickets grabbing two with help of an athletic catch from big brother Liam, much to his delight!!!!.

After a little rest Harvey came back on to mop up the tail, a fine controlled spell of spin bowling (3-11). All bowlers backed up excellently by the fielding of the whole team, one area to work on was the wides, 38 made a real difference to the total that ultimately put Seaford out of the game.

Needing a solid start that didn't happen with two early wickets making it an uphill battle. Some big boundary shots from Beau (21) and then Skipper Jake Moore (24) got Seaford back in the game. After they went only Rupert made double figures, many batsmen occupying the crease but not being able to find the boundaries needed to challenge the total.

A promising performance with many fine individual contributions, just not quite enough on the day, St James being just that little bit stronger. We shall take the learning from today into Thursdays game at home to Rottingdean.
