Seaford 2s travelled to the sunny picturesque home of Buxted Park 2s full of confidence and in the hope of maintaining their undefeated run.

Skipper Karl Wootten lost the toss and the hosts decided to have a bat first on a pitch, combined with a fast outfield, which looked full of runs.

The Buxted openers set off at a good rate with 40 runs on the board inside 5 overs, a big score was looking on the cards. However, two run outs later, from Deiniol Cummins & Robbie Gravett, saw both Buxted openers, Liam Olive (28) & Alfie Hunter (10) depart. With John ‘Smudger’ Smith bowling an accurate 9 over spell, which gave away only 18 runs, the Buxted run rate took a nose dive as Seaford grabbed back some control of the match.

The middle overs saw Bilesh Jayamanne bowl a very tight line and length, his mystery spin being rewarded with 3 wickets, as Seaford maintained a stranglehold on the Buxted run rate. Meanwhile young  Sammy Marchesi was slowly rebuilding the Buxted innings, a combination of some crisp drives and some excellent running between the wickets, which at times had the Seaford fielders running ragged, brought Buxted back into the game. A swift 42 not out from Nick Bolton saw Buxted end the their 40 overs on 187-5 and Marchesi 66 not out.

After an excellent tea Seaford set about the run chase. 3s centurion from last Saturday Jon Reynolds (27) and Rob Gravett (46) opened up. From ball one they both looked to dominate the Buxted opening bowlers, Gravett taking a particular liking to anything off line as he struck several big boundaries. With their departure the damage had already been done as they had set up a good foundation for the middle order to come in and play their shots. Owen Edmonds (29) and Man of the Match Jayamanne (45) both playing confidently as they dispatched any bad balls to the boundary. With their departure it was then left to Cummins (19 not out) & Tim ‘Pager’ Page (19 not out) to administer the last rites as Seaford ran out comfortable 4 wicket winners with 5 overs too spare.

There was a wicket each for Martin Coleman, Josh Coleman, Liam Olive & Sammy Marchesi.

An excellent game of cricket which was played in good spirits and sees Seaford maintain their undefeated run, 4 wins from 4.

Next week Seaford 2s host Hellingly 2s at The Salts.
