Pitts Dynamite Blasts 2s Out Of A Hole

On yet another glorious summer's day at The Salts Seaford won the toss against visiting Rotherfield and opted to  bat first, this looked like the wrong decision as Seaford struggled to find the boundary for long periods. Patrick McCaughan (32) was starting to pierce the infield and find the boundaries when he was deceived by slow the left arm of Harman, with the score on 40. This bought a steady flow of wickets to reduce Seaford to 97 for 6 from 32 overs, only Ollie Harvey offering resistence with a fine (40). When Ollie went this bought together the experience of John Smith and the returning Jon Pitts, at this point the whole game was turned on its head, these two blasted 4s and 6s to all parts of the ground endangering any passerby not watching the game. A 97 run partnership in ten overs put a different light on the game Smith with 49 from 25 balls including 5 4s and 3 mighty maximums, Jon Pitts remained not out at the end on 73 off 64 balls including  11 4s and 3 massiiiiiiivvve 6s. Seaford finished the innings on 220/7 a fine effort from where they were, only Harman making any impression with the ball with 3 for 23. Seaford now had the momentum and were all over the Rotherfield top order. Opening bowlers Smith and Ben Harvey with a wicket a piece gave them nothing loose to score off. After a few early maidens the catches started to come, Seaford finally fielding to a level worthy of the team. The wickets were tumbling regularly, fine catches from Smith and Jon Brown (2 each) plus an excellent tumbling catch in the outfield by Max Wright and more straightforward ones by Reynolds Pitts and Ben Harvey  reduced the visitors to 60-8. Deiniol Cummins new found off spin bagged him 4 for 26 plus a fine spell of off break wizardry from Max Wright, 3 for 7 from 6 overs, got them to nine down. Then Oscar Weisz, with his first bowl for the 2nd team, grabbed his 1st wicket with leg spin inducing the false stroke to close the innings down. A fine win, Seaford's youth and experience all delivering in all aspects of the game to make this a comfortable win. Rotherfield were on top for the first 32 overs but after that Seaford dominated with some excellent power packed batting backed up by tidy bowling and superb fielding.
