Patrick 'McCrackens' A Ton To Guide Seaford To Victory

Seaford 2s made the trip to Buxted Park 2s looking to carry on their recent good form. Seaford were asked to bowl first on a boiling hot day, the heat didn't seem to bother the bowlers as John Smith and Mitch Ellingham (2-32) made runs hard to come by initially. It did however seem to impact on fielding as many ground fielding mistakes happened throughout the innings, Smith finished with impressive figures of 1-18 off his nine overs, a great effort in that heat.

With the change bowlers the runs started to flow with Rob Hunter making 78 and Sam Anderson 56 before the fielding suddenly improved for one ball, Deiniol Cummins, with one stump to aim at, running out Anderson. Hunter went soon after and then the runs dried up as Seaford clawed the hosts back to a reasonable total of 221-7. Cummins taking two late wickets.

With Seaford having a strong batting line this total looked very achievable. Tom Date, on his return to fitness, and Patrick McCaughan came out the traps with all guns blazing reaching 44 in the 6th over before first and only wicket of the innings fell, Tom Date managing to drill one low at the fielder to depart for slightly cooler parts of the ground. With temperature rising McCaughan (111*) and Ollie Harvey (80*) went about dismantling any bowler that came on. A sensational undefeated stand of 183 in 25 overs saw Seaford to victory. A stunning partnership full of authority and maturity from both youngsters.

Buxted Park stuck to the task well but in the searing temperatures and with the ball going to all corners of the Park it was a struggle.

A great run chase by Seaford. Now onto local rivals Newhaven at The Salts next week as Seaford aim to carry on recent good form.
