On losing toss Seaford batted first and lost two early wickets, leaving Oscar Weisz (21) and Jon Reynolds (36) to build a partnership to get back on track they took the score to 62 before Reynolds was sent back to the pavilion LBW. This bought in the returning Deiniol Cummins to hit a quickfire 34. The Newhaven skipper Daryl Tullett slowed the pace down and bought himself on and wickets started to tumble to leave Seaford struggling at 119-7. Newhaven sniffing a low total to chase were then frustrated by a combination of Mick Spragg, John Smith and Jonny Brown with a mixture of sound defence and clean hitting took the total up a respectable 194 on an lively Fort road wicket. This looked a challenging total on the day. Newhaven started cautiously against the experience of John Smith (1-18) and the seam of Mitch Ellingham (2-42). With some tight bowling and excellent fielding Seaford made runs hard to come putting Newhaven under pressure, Newhaven were now well behind the run rate at 28-3 off 15 overs, they never really recovered from this and didn’t challenge the Seaford total at all. An excellent spell from Ben Page gave him two wickets and gave Seaford a bit of hope, but ultimately a watchful 42 from Jack Brechin and a well hit 37* from Danny Pollard got Newhaven up to third batting point and a drawn game. A good game played in fine spirits but Seaford dissapointed that for the second weekend on the trot couldn’t get the required ten wickets for victory. We will have another go next week at home to Herstmonceux. Well done all.
