With the summer heatwave showing no signs of cooling, Seaford welcomed Robertsbridge to The Salts on yet another hot sunny day.
Seaford won the toss and despite the conditions opted to bowl on what looked an another absolute run fest pitch. It wasnt looking a great decision as Robertsbridge rattled off to a flyer and quickly had 50 on the board before dangerous opener P Johnson (23) fell to the first of three catches from the safe hands of Jon Robards. This slowed the run rate down and with a few late wickets falling including the excellent J Goodsell (53) restricted Robertsbridge to 191-7 off their 40 overs. Mark McCaughan (3-12) the pick of the Seaford bowlers by far. To be honest it looked at least 50 runs short due to the lightning outfield. With the manner of last weeks defeat still in their minds, Seaford quickly set off on their run chase with Justin Squires(36) crashing the ball to all parts. When he fell with the score on 57 only 7 overs had gone reducing the run rate to a comfortable figure. This brought Gavin Wright (19no) to the wicket and with opener Mark McCaughan (99no) put on an unbeaten stand of 136 to win the game in the 28th over. McCaughan hit the winning boundary, but agonizingly ending 1 run short of what would have been a richly deserved century. It was a difficult day for the Robertsbridge bowlers, not helped by an injury in batting leaving them with a fielder short. A much needed win for Seaford 3s which keeps them just in sight of the leaders, ahead of next weeks trip away to Hadlow Down. Seaford 30pts - Robertsbridge 9pts
