An incredible sunny day saw Seaford 4s visit Denton for the start of the season. On winning the toss a bold decision by Seaford's skipper as he decided to bat first on what turned out to be a challenging wicket. His decision soon looked like being a mistake as opener Martin Edmonds was dismissed by the first ball of the game. He was soon followed by opening partner Ben and then No 3 Colin Goddard to an absolute seed from Denton skip J Rudwick )2 for 21). A quick partnership between Richard Cummins and Justin Squires saw the score move on but both then fell to P Ward (4 for 17). This brought man of the match Dom Wiess to the crease and he showed the only way to bat on the track. With great skill and concentration he managed to guide Seaford to 103 and he finished on 33 not out.
After a great tea we set about trying to make inroads into the Denton order. A steady start by the openers was eventually broken by Steve Hearsey (2 for 18). A couple of other wickets fell soon after but the real breakthrough came when Sam Mullet (3 for 15) removed opener A Turner for 31. Nobody else could come to terms with the wicket and tight bowling from O Cox (1 for 17) and J Squires (2 for 17) eventually saw Denton bowled out for 90.
A good win in a well spirited local derby and a great start to the league season.
