Home Runs Help "Lever" Seaford 3s To The Win

On an absolutely glorious day at The Salts, Seaford welcomed Robertsbridge 2s hoping to bounce back from last weeks abject display.

As per usual Seaford's skipper lost the toss and on what this season so far has been an absolute belter of a batting track and were asked to bowl. The sun, added to the lack of rain and the newly cut outfield, promised to give lots of runs and they came by the bucket load.

Despite an early wicket for Steve Hearsey (2-42) and some much improved bowling from Sam Mullett, the runs were hard to keep down. A second wicket of well over 200 between M Simms (104) and S Tooke (125) pushed the score up fast. When Simms finally fell in the 34th over the score was already into the 240s. A few late wickets helped keep the final assault "almost" respectable and Robertsbridge ended their 40 overs on a massive 281-4.

An extremely hard day for the bowlers, not helped by a few dropped catches and some interesting at times fielding. Robertsbridge however did bat well, and they fully justified their total. It was a score that albeit it hard to get, it wouldn't be impossible to overhaul due to the razor outfield.

After tea Seaford set off in a much quicker fashion than recent batting efforts and at drinks has pushed on to 120-1 and suddenly it looked like 282 was obtainable. Fahad Ahmed (49) agonisingly run out one short of his 50, although to be fair, he was totally exhausted due to his fasting and being run into the ground by Matt Lever (101) running everything possible. Dom Weisz (43no) then joined Matt and between them kept the scoreboard rattling over and when Matt fell just after getting his very well deserved century, the scoreboard showed 224 with just 4 overs left and still needing almost 15 an over. In walked baseball player Rhys Cummins (38no) and showed his skills with three enormous "home runs" including scoring 14 off the first 3 balls of the final over when facing 11 to win off it.

Neither team really deserved to lose today, sadly one had to. 566 runs for 7 wickets, three century makers, an absolutely amazing game..........unless you are a bowler!
