Great Team Performance Topples The Leaders

Seaford 2s went into Herstomonceux 1s game knowing nothing short of a win was vital. With a much changed side from last week's win Seaford won the toss and elected to bat first on pitch that didn#t look full of runs, this proved to be the case all day as not one batsmen looked fluent at all despite both teams scoring plenty of runs all season.

Seaford welcomed back Patrick McCaughan' who nearly fell first ball of the match being dropped at square leg, he then got his head down and grafted his way to 19 before being cleaned up. Jonty Reynolds had already departed by now bringing together the youth and experience of John Smith (25) and Ollie Harvey (19), they took the score through to 69 with blend of watchfull defence and clubbed boundaries. When they fell Deiniol Cummins came in and bludgeoned 6 boundaries in his rapid 25 before perishing. Seaford then slipped to 127-9 before a brilliant and crucial undefeated last wicket partnership of 36 between Jon Robards 28* and Ben Harvey 8*. Knowing how vital a challenging total was today this was an excellent stand between the youngsters, this pushed Seaford's total up to 163 which was more than Ceux scored at the Salts earlier in the season in much more favourable condtions.

The Ceux wicket takers were shared around between Watson, Ladham, Guest and Toomey.

With Seaford now with the momentum over a quieter Ceux team they had the perfect start two early wickets before a run was scored one a piece for Smith and Ben Harvey. Crouch (36) battled his way along for some time watching several partners depart as Seaford'.s bowling as a unit kept the Ceux batsmen in check, not one getting in. Ben Harvey sent Guest back to the pavilion in last over of his frist spell to expose the middle order too early for the home sides liking. With the introduction of Squires and Robards, both nicking a wicket a piece, Seaford were making 163 total look a long way away. When the leg spin of MOM Deiniol Cummins came on at just the right time the game went hugely Seaford's way, with his most impressive spell of the season bringing him 3-25, Ollie Harvey in his second spell grabbed two wickets in first over, a Jaffa removing wicket expert Stevens, who decided to leave a straight one and a stunning catch from Oscar Weisz seeing the back of Ladham Skipper Nick Toomey blasted a few late boundaries but ran out of partners, Seaford.s fielding on the day as a team was as best it has been all season.

Great stuff and well done, this helped keep Ceux under pressure for the whole innings which in the end told.

A fine victory for Seaford under pressure, their sixth win on the bounce, still playing catch up after our mid season melt down. With two games to go and Seaford are determined to keep the pressure on both Newhaven and Herstmonceux by making that eight wins on the bounce, hoping that the teams above them slip up, we will be there waiting!!!!
