Great Team Effort Wins The Day

On a bright and breezy summers day Seaford 2s made the short journey to local rivals Dicker to try and keep their winning start to the season going. After winning the toss, for a change, Seaford skipper Karlos Wootten took the decision to bowl first (with a little input from the senior players in the team, never again!!!!) as a little bit of covers malfunction overnight due to high winds left some huge damp patches on important sections of the wicket. The thought that this would make the wicket do strange things never turned into reality, the pitch was fine and the Dicker batsmen set about compiling a match winning total.

The early loss of skipper Matt Hitchen LBW to Mick 'Team Bus' Spragg set them back, and opening partner Jolly John Smith sent back keeper batsmen Dickie LBW as well. Ben Page burst into life running out Mills with a direct hit, but then Dicker fought back in the middle overs, an area where Seaford need to focus on if they want to carry on winning. Bilesh Jayamanne, with his off spin, then got in on the act with a brace of wickets. Tim “Kit Bag'' Page then joined the wicket club when Bilesh caught a skier off his medium pace. A late strike from Ben Page, with his expertly disguised “hand grenade” slower ball taking the big hitter Alsop’s bails off. Dicker had managed to get their score up to a respectable 192/7, Seaford bowled to many boundary balls after drinks which the Dicker batsmen took full advantage of, an area to work on for next few weeks. Great improvement for Seaford was less wides, all bowlers taking a wicket but unfortunately we didn’t manage to get the full 10 bowling points.

Seaford set about chasing down Dicker's total with positive intent from the first over. Jon Reynolds (43) and Gravett (33) taking advantage of some loose bowling and the lightning quick outfield to bring up the fifty in the 7th over. Gravett then deceived by a ball that “apparently” did loads lost his off stump, this bought the returning Tom Date to the fold, a bright and breezy 23 from him helped Seaford reach the 100 mark for the loss of just one wicket. All looked good for Seaford before a mini collapse saw four Seaford batsmen traipsing back to the pavilion for not a lot. This bought together Ben “ Hand Grenade “ Page and Deano Cooper, back from his travels, for his first game of the season. Dean (29*) with great maturity shored up one end whilst Ben Page peppered the boundary for a quick fire 33 to nearly get Seaford over the line before he again missed that cunningly disguised straight ball. In came Tim “Kit Bag” Page to join forces with Deano to take Seaford over the line with some entertaining running between the wickets, nice for the watching crowd to see Tim struggling for breathe. These two experienced cricketers  saw Seaford over the line, again today, the lack of fifth bowler proving crucial. 

A great team performance this week, contributions from many with bat and ball well done all. Even the skipper called the toss right this week.
