On another sunny day at the salts, the visitors Hellingly 3s won the toss and duly put in Seaford 3s to bat.
With the usual players unavailable or moved up to the 2s, the home captain moved himself to open alongside inform Rob Gravett. This proved to be a good decision as the opening partnership flourished. The defensive Jon Milham (25) giving perfect foil to the powerful hitting of Rob Gravett (187). When Milham became the first wicket to fall, the scoreboard showed a partnership of 150, and the not out Gravett already past his well deserved century.
Further good partnerships of 66 with Gavin Wright (31) and 77 with James Gravett (31no) had pushed the score to 297-3 when Rob Gravett finally chopped on for a richly deserved 187. The innings was immediately declared as he walked off at 297-4 off 36.3 overs.
All the bowlers toiled hard, but had no answer to the aggressive hitting of Gravett.
In reply Hellingly lost an early couple of wickets, but recovered to 46-2 and 66-3 with J.Ottley (26) and S.Read (21) top scoring. Wickets however soon regularly tumbled as Seaford's youngsters bowled well as a team and shared the wickets around. Sam Mullett (3-16) and Ben Edmonds (3-6) the stand out figures. Edmonds taking the last 3 wickets to end the Hellingly's innings on 97, and securing a win by 200 runs for the home side.
Although Seaford were not at full strength by any means, it was clear that Hellingly were far from it as well. Our thanks to the Hellingly team, who despite being depleted, fought well and never dropped their heads. A courageous effort.
