Future Looks Bright

Seaford 4s welcomed Pevensey 3s to a warm but overcast Salts. On losing the toss it was the hosts who were asked to bat first.

After last week, being 15-4, it was a case of deja vu after early successes for Ollie Moore (1-19) and Caleb Laloo (2-59), the home side were 10-3.  Debutante U13 Callum Hall (35) then showed his quality putting together a sensible innings With Dom Weisz (56) they started to tilt the scoreboard towards their side. With Callum falling just before drinks and the total 77-4 Dom was joined by the inform Haydn Cummins (45no). The pair withstood some good bowling from the young Pevensey attack to leave Seaford in a good position for a final push. With Dom going after a well made half century it was left to Haydn and new acquisition John Saunders (26) ,with more than a few well taken quick singles, to gain maximum batting points and eventually end the innings on a respectable 208-6.

Double centurion from the previous week Guy Moore then started the Pevensey innings at a pace and although youngsters Laurie Weisz and Hall bowled well it wasn't until the introduction of Haydn (2-33) and Dom (1-32) that the reply started to falter. Away skipper James Wallis (51) and Freddie Wallis (32 no) with some intelligent cricket pushed their team ever near Seaford's total.

With the loss of Wallis snr and with 30 still required from 5 overs the game was evenly poised. Nick Chapman (24) then played what turned out to be a game winning knock with the winning runs scored with just 3 balls to spare.

With no less than 12 juniors on show the future looks bright for both clubs and it was probably the more youth and agility of the Pevensey side in the field that made the difference in the end.
