Eight Surprise Park

A depleted 4th team welcomed Linden Park 5ths to a Mediterranean looking Salts for a much welcome game. After the seemingly usual dropouts from the selected teams and much use of the captain's phone book Seaford were only able to field 8 players. On winning a rare toss Seaford choose to field first. Opening' lefties' Haydn Cummins (3-25) and debutant Fahad Ahmed (2-31) then produced excellent opening spells making the early Park batsman work hard for their runs. Backed up by some enthusiastic fielding from both young and old among the 8 all the Seaford bowlers produced tight spells. With Henry Turner (48) and Paul White (32) starting to find the many gaps Rhys Cummins (2-40) and Paul Brown (1-28) used their experience to get the 4s back in the game. The returning Haydn and Fahad then took the wickets their earlier spells deserved backed up by catches from Simon Lewis and Antony Mills, who ran in twice from the deep to take diving catches. The Park innings finishing on 160-8 . After a much needed rest and drink the Seaford opening partnership of Colin Goddard (40) and Ahmed (47) set off to win the game in seemingly double quick time. When Goddard was caught and bowled by Reece Hazel (1-27) in the 12th over there was already 79 on the board. Ahmed was joined by home skipper Richard Cummins (39no) and was unfortunate not to get his half century he deserved with just 20 needed for victory. These runs were duly knocked off by Haydn and Richard for an emphatic win for the weary 8, all off whom played their part particularly in the field.
