Week 3 of the season saw the 4s travel away to Tunbridge Wells to play Linden Park 5s. The toss was won by the hosts who opted to bat first. Seaford’s opening bowlers Steve Hearsey (4 for 41) and Justin Squires (2 for 37) bowling tight lines removed the top 3 reasonable quickly bringing P White (18) and the aptly named big hitting J Grand (124) to the middle. A decent partnership was finally broken when the careful batting P White was caught in the slips by the evergreen Colin Goddard. The hosts began to rebuild again with S Thomas (19*) joining the fray. A batsman mixup finally saw the end of Grand unselfishly falling on his sword. Thomas tried his best to shepherd the tail but the returning opening bowlers offered little scoring opportunity’s and the innings finished on 205. After tea M Edmonds (45) and B Edmonds (27) followed in Grand’s footsteps and set about the bowlers the first wicket falling at 52 off 7 overs. There was little respite for the bowling attack as R Cummins (57*) and J Squires (59) cut and pulled their way almost to the target. With the fall of Squires wicket it left Cummins to see off the last runs needed for the win. A good confidence building win ahead of next weeks visit of Glynde.
