On yet another baking hot day Seaford made the trip to Little Common. with the usual availability issues and players moving up to higher teams. Seaford won the toss and despite the heat elected to bowl.
Needing a good start against the might of Little Common's renowned batting prowess was always going to be crucial. Unfortunately the chances came, but were all missed as Common moved to 70-0 off 17 when the first wicket finally fell, J Tryphonos (42) falling to Jon Robards (1-44). This didn't slow the scoring rate though, as inform P Feakins (67) proceeded to smash the ball all around the park and when he eventually was out caught in the deep, the score had rattled onto 179 off 30. Opener J Buss (88) top scored batting excellently.
Little Common finally declared at 256-3 off 44 overs. A day that the bowlers would surely like to forget.
In reply Seaford started steadily reaching 52-1 after 17 overs. Two quick wickets brought Gavin Wright (76) and James Gravett (90) together and between them took apart the Little Common bowling with a stand of 145. When Wright was dismissed there was still an outside chance of a Seaford win. But with time running out Seaford lost three quick wickets, including Gravett ,and with the run rate escalating the game finished in a very high scoring and entertaining draw on 244-7. D Reid (4-67) the main wicket taker.
Great game, but, definitley not a good day to be a bowler!
Little Common 17pts - Seaford 13 pts
