Billy Bowlings Magic But Silly Battings Tragic

With the heavy rain of Friday and early Saturday finally relenting, Seaford 3s made the short trip to Willingdon 2s and were met with a pitch very different to the run fest wicket at The Salts.
Seaford finally won a toss this year and elected to field hoping to keep the score down to a low total. After 3 overs it didn't seem that was going to happen as Willingdon raced off to 24-0. Then Sam Mullett (1-14) finally got his wicket he has deserved for some much better bowling recently, and after going for 9 in his first over, just went for 5 more in the next 6. Suddenly runs were becoming hard to get with the usual tight spell from Paddy Smith (2-16) assisted by Ben Edmonds somewhat fortunate first ball wicket. However it was the introduction of Billy Wootten (5-2) that ripped through the rest of the innings with a superb spell that the batsman had no answers to. A much needed bowling spell from Billy that will certainly stand him in great stead for the rest of the season. Willingdon innings ended on 86 all out, a total that should have been chaseable, even on a tricky pitch.
After the tea break Seaford opened with a new partnership of Billy Wootten and Owen Edmonds (who had earlier kept wicket excellently) but sadly both fell in the first few overs, Owen to in his words "an unplayable ball". With the lack of pace bowlers in the Willingdon team, the conditions played perfectly into their favour and the slow bowlers caused mayhem. With no pace on the ball, the batsman had to work hard for their runs, and with one end of the wicket giving hardly any bounce, wickets started to fall regularly. When century maker from last week Matt Lever (15) fell, alarm bells were starting to ring. Although Dom Weisz (13) batted very sensibly and backed with the tail, the runs were very slowly coming, and finally when Dom fell, the last hope fell with him. All credit to the Willingdon bowlers who were miserly and bowled to the conditions perfectly. Bettsworth (3-7), Cooknell (2-5) the main protagonists.
Last week was "I never want to bowl on that again" this week was "I never want to bat on that again"
Seaford must regroup and fight for the points in the coming games, they find themselves in the relegation spots after again losing a game they never should have.
