At an extremely wind swept Salts Seaford 2s top order found their form to brush aside Bexhill 3s.
On winning the toss Seaford skipper chose to bat first intent on setting a challenging total. The top order all did their job with openers Jon Reynolds (16) and Patrick McCaughan (64) starting the innings with a 59 run partnership. When Reynolds went LBW in came Mitch Ellingham with a welcome return to form with a powerful 53 from 39 balls. They put on an entertaining stand of 84 before both falling on 143. This bought together Jon Pitts and Deiniol Cummins who then went about dismantling all bowlers on show in an 183 run partnership, Pitts was run out for 83 from 56 balls, including 5 sixes, and Cummins remained 82 not out, off just 64 balls, A thoroughly entertaining stand in difficult conditions. Owen Edmonds finished not out on 13 with some quality improvising to keep the crowd engaged until the last ball.
Bexhill stuck at it extremely well in the face of the powerful hitting on display.
Bexhill's inning got off to the worst possible start with Mitch Ellingham producing the ball of the day with the first ball of the innings to find the edge which was snapped up at 1st slip by Jolly John Smith. Before you could blink Bexhill were four down for 23, two each for Smith and Ellingham. Birthday boy Max Wright then came on to bowl and worked his way through middle order with some quality off spin. His 9 overs saw him grab 5 for 23. With jug balls called Max will have a large bar bill to pay for all the jugs he owes. Jon Pitts completed his return from injury with a few overs at the end to wrap up the inning on 144, an impressive 200 run victory.
Credit to Bexhill, on the day they stuck with it through all of Seaford's impressive cricket. The 2s now
march onto Buxted Park next week looking to keep the promotion challenge going in the right direction. Good to see a more settled team which is showing in the results.
