4s 'Dom'inate Wright From The Off

Seaford 4s made the short trip to Jevington to play Willingdon 3s. On once again losing the toss Seaford were asked to bat first.

Openers Fahad Ahmed (12) and the injury carrying Gavin Wright (105) put on 46 for the first wicket batting steadily. A couple of quick wickets brought Dom Weisz (82) to the crease and with Wright put on a massive 3rd wicket partnership of 170 in just 26 overs. Mostly scored in boundarys and slowly half jogged singles due to Gavin's hamstring being nowhere near fit! When Gavin and Dom finally fell in quick succession the score was 229 and a quickfire 17 from John Saunders ended Seafords innings at 243-4. Willingdons bowlers had a hard time although opener A.Ward (2-19) bowled his full spell excellently and was hard to get away.

After the usual Jevington tea with the thickest ever coronation chicken sandwiches (editor was highly impressed with those), Willingdon set about their reply and went off quickly and soon had 38 on the board before Dan Tuite (2-22) clean bowled A.Ward (30) who had an excellent all round day. The score continued to tick over and at drinks Willingdon had reached 98-3 and still with a chance to haul in Seafords score. However as runs came, wickets also fell and 113-3 became 136-6. Returning from injury Jon Milham (2-34) bowling off spin disguised as just plain slow left arm, Fahad Ahmed (2-34) also picking up two, and to complete the two-fers Jon Saunders (2-21) grabbing the numbers 8 and 9. As the final Willingdon batsman walked in to bat, Jevington's groundsmen stepped on to stop the game due to the rain and wanted to protect their pitch. Although both teams were happy to have finished the game, they both accepted the decision was out of their hands and shook hands on the result. Using the Sussex league rain system with pens and calculators it was found that Willingdon had to be 214 off the 32 overs so the final result was Seaford won by 62 runs. (found out later that there is a target score calculator on the Sussex league website which confirmed the 214)

A great game played in the right spirit, shame the rains came but still a good day. A much needed win for the 4s
