Once again a gloriously hot sunny day on saturday, as the 3s visited Hadlow Down in a mid table clash. Hadlow Down won the toss and elected to bat on what looked another decent track. A much changed and understrength Seaford took to the field needing early wickets to put pressure on. Two quick wickets from Jon Milham (2-26) showing much better form than he has all season reduced Hadlow to 18-2. However the early good bowling from both openers was not helped by some unfortunate fielding on a difficult outfield but still the score at 15 overs was only in the 40s. Home captain David MacGowan (53) and Douglas Cornford (31) took the score to 96-2 before both fell to Simon Pitts (2-38) Seaford continued bowling well and Steve Hearsey (2-46) taking two wickets and with just a few overs left had Hadlow Down at 141-6 and hoping to keep them under 160-170. Then came the game changing moment as Mohammed Khan walked out to the middle and put on 103 runs made of his 91 off an astonshing 29 balls and 12 extras with 10 sixes and 6 fours to completely blow away Seaford and the innings ended at 244-6. It was power hitting at its best, and to be honest none of the bowlers actually bowled badly, it was just brutal but straight bat shots, no slogging. After tea, you sensed that the stuffing had been taken out of Seaford, a slow start and good tight bowling including "that man" Khan 2-10 off his 9 overs, meant the 50 didnt arrives until the 21st over. Further wickets fell and at 99-7 it was looking like an absolute drubbing was on the cards. However once again the tail wagged and the excellent Jon Robards (58no) in an 8th wicket partnership of 44 with Jon Milham pushed Seaford at least up to some batting points, eventually finishing at 155-8. All in all, it was a decent effort by Seaford with a couple of 3rd team debutants, but completely out shined by Hadlow Down and mainly Mohammed Khan. It wasnt hard to see where the "Man of the Match" award was heading !
